Arrive on time prepared with a short selection of an appropriate song. Bring sheet music in the correct key. Acapella singing is highly discouraged. Dress for an extensive dance call. We do not anticipate reading or singing from the show until callbacks. Auditionees must be at least 16 years old at the time of auditions.
Please note: We are unable to accommodate early or video auditions at this time. Those cast must plan to keep weekends (daytime hours) open through the rehearsal process. Some weekends will be non-negotiable.
Questions can be addressed by contacting director Chip Joyce via email (email@example.com) or Facebook private message.
Consider attending our pre-audition workshop as well on January 5th!
A CHORUS LINE takes its audience through the final grueling audition for a new Broadway musical. After a rigorous dance sequence that opens the show, cuts are made and finalists are selected. The driven, compulsive director Zach decides to elicit a personal history from each dancer: how they got into show business, why they became dancers, what their hopes, fantasies and aspirations are. As he calls upon them individually, their stories emerge, blending into a seamless series of songs, storytelling, and dance routines; some humorous, some poignant, some intimate.
A CHORUS LINE departs from the usual glossy backstage musical by presenting a true picture of life in the theatre: glamorous at times, but also tough, heartbreaking and sometimes even tragic. After these brave dancers explain why they go through life filled with rejection and injury, Zach makes his selection.
A CHORUS LINE attempts to show audiences the reality of an audition; for this production, the director of the show, Chip Joyce, will also assume the role of Zach, the director IN the show, in a unique twist of concept adding an additional layer to the show’s “theatre-verite” style. All other roles are open!
