Corn Stock Stages ‘Catch Me If You Can’

Corn Stock Theatre To Stage Catch Me If You Can the Musical

Corn Stock Theatre closes its 66th Summer season at the tent in Bradley Park with the musical CATCH ME IF YOU CAN! Based on the unbelievable true story of one of the most famous con artists in history, Catch Me If You Can is a rousing musical set in the 1960’s. This story inspired a hit Steven Spielberg film in 2002 starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. This musical version, which debuted on Broadway in 2011 was created by a Tony Award-winning “dream team,” with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray and Mary Poppins Returns).

Corn Stock’s summer 2019 production will be the FIRST time this exciting show has ever been seen or produced in Central Illinois! Leading the production is Director Chip Joyce, who previously directed Corn Stock’s Summer productions of Guys and Dolls in 2014 and Hair in 2012. In his notes, Joyce calls the show “an undiscovered gem” that Corn Stock audiences will love and feels so right on the stage. Assisting him is Music Director Laura Weaver Hughes (who will also conduct a live onstage orchestra) and Choreographer Danny Fisher, responsible for staging the show’s many extensive dance numbers.

Leading the cast of 26 is Brady Hughes as precocious teenager Frank Abagnale, Jr. who runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a Pan-Am pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. He is ruthlessly pursued by the no-nonsense Agent Carl Hanratty, played by Corn Stock veteran Bob Parkhurst. Frank’s parents are played by Troy Hamilton and Michelle Elam, and his love interest Brenda Strong is played by Devyn Farney. Both Hughes and Farney make their Corn Stock debut with this production.

The show is fast paced and fun, the perfect way to tell the story of Abagnale, who today is one of the world’s leading authorities on secure documents, fraud and embezzlement. He has been associated with the FBI for more than 35 years. The cast of Corn Stock’s production were even sent a letter from the real Abagnale himself, thanking them for telling the story and wishing them luck on the production. ‘Catch Me If You Can’ is a big and bright spectacle with high-energy dance numbers, a riveting story, and nostalgic setting. You can “catch it” at Corn Stock Theatre, August 23-31st, running every night at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available by calling 309-676-2196 or at cornstocktheatre.com
