Beginning 2019-2020 Season [Fall-Spring]

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Peoria Area Civic Chorale is seeking qualified candidates for the following position: Director of Music Education Outreach Programs. Qualifications: Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or equivalent experience required. Previous experience working with children (ages 4th through 12th grade) and their music educators highly desirable.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Coordinate three Youth Festivals (i.e., the Children’s Festival Chorus (Fall season), the Junior High Festival Chorus (Fall Season), the 4th Grade Festival Chorus (Spring Season), and the Young Artist Competition (Fall season).

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the logistical planning, organization, and execution of the three music festivals programs and the Young Artist Competition. The Director must be able to successfully work with a large assortment of people and businesses in order to ensure that each program goes off without a hitch.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: Event management, contracts and negotiation, budgeting, hiring, live performance, leadership, multi-tasking, written and verbal communication.

FESTIVAL CHORUS DESCRIPTIONS: The Peoria Area Civic Chorale is proud to organize and sponsor three annual festival opportunities for students in grades 4-8. Schools throughout Central Illinois nominate their finest students to participate in a chorus that is comprised of approximately 90 singers. Students work with a guest conductor in a two-day festival experience that culminates with a performance at the Peoria Area Civic Chorale’s bi-annual concert series held at the Caterpillar Performing Arts Center at Five-Points Washington. Students enjoy the opportunity to work with an advanced choir and perform in the professional atmosphere of a performing arts auditorium.

YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION DESCRIPTION: To recognize, encourage, and reward talented Central Illinois singers, the Peoria Area Civic Chorale sponsors an annual Young Artist Competition for vocalists currently in grades 8-12. Auditions take place on a Saturday in October at a local venue appropriate for vocal auditions. The three winners of this competition have the privilege of performing as a soloist at the Peoria Area Civic Chorale’s An American Family Christmas concert series held at the Caterpillar Performing Arts Center at Five Points Washington in December. In addition, each of the three winners also receive a plaque and a $300 scholarship to be used for music study (voice lessons, music camp, college courses, etc.).

COMPENSATION: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
