SYNOPSIS:
Inspired by an incredible true story and based on the hit Steven Spielberg film starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, ‘Catch Me If You Can’ is a high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. This delightfully entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning “dream team,” with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray and Mary Poppins Returns).

‘Catch Me If You Can’ is a big and bright spectacle with high-energy dance numbers, a riveting story, and nostalgic setting. Corn Stock’s summer 2019 production will be the FIRST time this exciting show has ever been seen or produced in Central Illinois!

Seeking fame and fortune amid the swinging 1960’s, precocious teenager Frank Abignale, Jr. runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a Pan-Am pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. When Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent, Carl Hanratty, though, Carl pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes.

Roles available for 12-15 men and 13-15 women. This is a fast paced and fun show for its entire cast!

CHARACTERS:
Frank Abagnale, Jr.
Our story’s conniving protagonist, a handsome and youthful con artist. This is a demanding tour-de-force role for a young man capable of carrying the weight of an entire show on his shoulders. Must be magnetic, charismatic and convincing. Age: 18-? Range C5-G2

Carl Hanratty
An FBI agent leading the investigation and search for Frank Jr. A knowledgeable, habitual and private workaholic. No nonsense, yet still highly crowd pleasing as a character. He too requires a powerhouse performer to bring to life. Age: Older than 35. Vocal range: G4-G2

Frank Abagnale, Sr.
Frank Jr.’s father. He is an inspiration when it comes to swindling. Upbeat and fast-talking, he undergoes a series of progressive failures that leaves him a miserable drunk, yet always fancies himself a freewheeling, high rolling ladies man. Age: Older than 40. Vocal range: G#4-F2

Paula Abagnale
Frank Jr.’s gorgeous mother. Caring and loving, but with an underlying resentment toward her husband and son. She is glamorous and speaks with a French accent. Age: 40ish+ Vocal range: C5-A3

Brenda Strong
A young nurse and Frank Jr.’s eventual love interest. Hard-working and initially insecure, she comes to trust Frank Jr. but his true identity clouds her feelings. Age: 21+ Vocal range: A5-G3

Carol Strong
Brenda’s traditional mother. She is talkative and boisterous. Age: 40+ Vocal range: A5-Bb3

Roger Strong
Brenda’s conservative father. He is stern and interrogatory, but reveals himself to be deeply romantic. Age: 45+ Vocal range: A4-A2

Agent Branton, Agent Cod, and Agent Dollar
Hanratty’s crew, well-meaning but all a bit bumbling. Ages vary.

Cheryl Ann
A call girl and Playboy “Playmate of the Year” swindled by Frank Jr. This is a comical cameo that will likely be filled by a member of the female ensemble. 18+

Ensemble, aka “The Frank Abagnale Jr Players”
A tight-knit and hard working troupe of utility players that will play Commuters, Assistants, Stewardesses, Pilots, Agents, Targets, Party-Goers, Doctors, Nurses and much more. They can look forward to numerous costume changes…

The MEN play a variety of roles, both speaking and non. All must be capable movers and at least half should be true dancers. Minimum of 6, maximum of 10 needed. Various ages.

The LADIES must all be excellent singers and dancers. They do a LOT of the heavy lifting in this show. In addition to singing and dancing in numerous numbers they also take on a number of other small roles. Projected number is 10. This is not simply a “dance chorus”; they would all ideally have “leading lady” skills and attributes. Ages 18 and up.
