Columbia Terrace & University Planter Mural Project
June 10 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pmFree
A few months ago I had this crazy idea that our area needed some color and that our neighborhood (Columbia Terrace North) lacked a true sign welcoming people to the area. Fast forward to now, through some awesome collaboration and the hard work of the amazing community minded team of people the crazy idea has come to fruition.
On June 10th weather permitting Jessica McGhee, Quinton Thomas, Alec DeJesus, and Chelsie Tamms will use their incredible artistic gifts to transform the planters with murals at University and Columbia Terrace into a gateway introducing and welcoming passers by to the neighborhoods (Columbia Terrace North, University East, and The Uplands).
Through the generous financial support of the three adjacent neighborhood associations, the West Bluff Council, Kallister Realty’s John McDonald, the Orchard District’s Dan Pelphrey, Councilman Charles Grayeb, and the City of Peoria’s Public Works department the planters will take on a new life of vibrant color.
Below are some samples of the artists work. I couldn’t have asked for a more talented team of people to work with to continue to shape and build up our community. This project fills me with such hope about the community we can build through collaboration and shared vision. I’m also glad to say that the artists involved will be compensated for their time and talents and that the work will display the good that can come when a community embraces public art.
Please join us on June 10th to celebrate. If needed a second day to complete the project will be included on June 24th from 10am until completion.
