Ring in the New Year with Corn Stock Theatre’s First Show of 2019, and the Theatre Center’s First Ever Whodunit!
Get 2019 started with a challenge that is more entertaining than any New Year’s resolution! Corn Stock Theatre invites you to showcase your sleuthing skills and see if you can ingeniously solve the Theatre Center’s first ever murder mystery, which opens Friday night, January 11th at 7:30 p.m. “Out of Sight…Out of Murder” is a comedy by Fred Carmichael that combines romance, suspense, and cosmic wit.
The mystery begins as young author (Peter Knight – played by Nathan Apodaca) is grinding out a murder story in an old cabin where another author was murdered years before. A weird electrical storm affects a cosmic snafu and his characters come to life. The small cast of nine also includes the lovely ingénue (Kay – played by Kerri Rae Ryan), the trusty butler (Cogburn – played by Paul Gordon), a feisty character woman (Fiona – played by Kristin Whitaker), a dauntless hero (Dick – played by Ricky Hawkins), a fascinating “other woman” (Lydia – played by Megan Pulley), the always pregnant serving girl (Addie – played by Rachel McCrae), the wily lawyer waiting for midnight to read the will (Jordan Dillingham – played by Paul Arbisi), and in the real world, the mansion’s caretaker (Minna – played by Mary Kaye Harlan). Peter loses control of his characters and there is a murder; the intended victim is Peter. Other murders follow and the culprit is among characters who, having also worked for other authors, know a great deal about the subject. Can author Peter find the killer before the killer gets the author?
“Out of Sight…Out of Murder” brings many familiar faces back to the Corn Stock stage, some in new production roles. Nathan Apodaca returns for his third show in the last year, having been cast in the summer production of “Camelot” and most recently in “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” Ricky Hawkins is also returning to the Theatre Center stage, having participated in all three Winter Season shows this season. Currently serving as a Corn Stock Board Member, Kristin Whitaker makes her return to the stage after a 15 year hiatus, while 20-year theater veteran Erika Poch makes her directing debut.
The cast of “Out of Sight…Out of Murder” invites you to warm up on the set of a Vermont cabin and help Peter solve this murder mystery before he is killed by a character in his own novel. The show runs Friday and Saturday – January 11/12 and 18/19 – at 7:30 p.m., and a Sunday Matinee – January 13 and 20 – at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10/Students, $14/Adults and are available online at www.cornstocktheatre.com or by calling 309-676-2196.
