Ring in the New Year with Players

A New Year’s Eve tradition returns to Peoria Players Theatre as part of the 100th season celebration. A Ring-A-Ding-Ding New Year is back to delight audiences with the music of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. This musical revue features seven exceptional vocalists who will perform over twenty numbers from the songbook of Sinatra.

A Ring-A-Ding-Ding New Year – the title is named in honor of Frank’s 1961 album – originated at Peoria Players on New Year’s Eve in 2010 and was repeated in 2011 and 2012. This year’s co-directors Bruce Colligan and Nicki Haschke had a hand in its first 3 years. “We thought it would be a nice addition to the Peoria Players 100th season, and the previous performances were very successful,” Haschke says. “The years we didn’t do it, we received calls in the box office asking for us to bring it back. We have an exciting lineup of talent this year, and I’m happy to be a part of it again.”

Bill Murphy returns as the emcee, and the vocalists include David Brown, Bruce Colligan, Wendi Lee Fleming, Rachel Kocher, Tyler Smith, Vicky Snyder and Mary Rose Williams.

“The choices of Sinatra’s music for this show are vast. They cover decades.  Every song is beautiful,” Colligan says.  “Sinatra gave much credit to the musicians and to the writers and arrangers of the songs, not to mention other singers he loved performing with.”

Song selections include classics such as “New York, New York,” “My Funny Valentine,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Old Black Magic,” “My Way,” and so many more.  Each act closes with a medley of show-stopping numbers.

The evening will also include Peoria Players’ complimentary hors d’oeuvres buffet. Chairmen Carole Rogers, Karen Stringer and Chris Coons will provide everything from sweet to savory.  The show will begin that evening at 7:30 pm, with the buffet at intermission.

Haschke says, “What’s nice about the time is that the event is over by 10:00 pm. That gives patrons plenty of time to make it to a friend’s party by midnight, or make it home and off the roads safely.”

Tickets are $25 per person and are available by calling 309-688-4473 or online at peoriaplayers.org.
