Sculpture Walk Peoria will launch its 2016 year-long outdoor exhibit with an Opening Day Celebration on Saturday, June 4th. The event will begin with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, at 1:30pm on Washington Street under the Bob Michel Bridge (near Cross Fit).  Speakers will include Mayor Jim Ardis; Executive Director of ArtsPartners, Jenn Gordon; and Sculpture Walk Peoria Committee Chair, Joe Richey.  Interviews will be available at the conclusion of the Ribbon Cutting, or upon request.

The Opening Celebration will continue from 2-4PM during which the public is invited to view for the first time all 16 large-scale sculptures featured in this year’s walk. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the sculptures from artists who created them. This year’s walk features the work of nationally and internationally recognized artists from 9 different states, as well as one from Canada, all of whom will be on site for the event.

In preparation for the opening day, fifteen new pieces will be installed on Washington Street on June 3rd.  The sixteenth piece, “Prairie Walker” by James Johnson, was first featured in Sculpture Walk Peoria 2015 and will remain in Peoria for one additional year as part of this year’s walk.
