Peoria Players Theatre is proud to present the beloved classic and musical fantasy The Wizard of Oz. Back by popular demand and a favorite among audiences of all ages, The Wizard of Oz was one of Peoria Players’ Audience Choice winners for their 100th season. Come see Dorothy, her dog, Toto, and friends, the Scarecrow, Tinman and Cowardly Lion and together be whisked away down the Yellow Brick Road to the magical Land of Oz.
After a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy is swept away from all she knows to the Land of Oz and an enchanting city inhabited by Munchkins and their guardian friend, Glinda, The Good Witch of the North. She gets some new shoes and quickly learns she’s made an enemy of The Wicked Witch of the West and longs to find her way back home to her family. She is told of a great and powerful Wizard that may hold the key. But how does she find him? Well, by following the Yellow Brick Road, of course. So off she goes on her journey where she is greeted by new and memorable friends, the Scarecrow, Tinman and a Cowardly Lion who have reasons of their own to join in her quest.
But on their way they find their determination tested as they have to dodge the revengeful Wicked Witch of the West and her dastardly flying monkeys who with stop at nothing to keep them all from reaching the Emerald City and the great Wizard of Oz! In the end, the lesson to be learned is that “there’s no place like home.”
